At Sydney Road Dental Care, our aim is not only for you to gain a better understanding of your dental health, but also how it affects the health of your whole body. During your appointment, you will be seen by both our dentist and hygienist, or oral health therapist. Your consultation with the dentist will involve a comprehensive examination of your jaws, mouth and teeth. We will also ask you to let us know of any particular concerns or questions we can address.
Next, we will take a full series of diagnostic x-rays which are critical in providing a comprehensive assessment of health. Lastly, we will discuss any further treatment, and provide you with a written treatment plan should you need it.
The second component of your appointment will generally be with our hygiene department, run by our Oral Health Therapist and Hygienist. These are highly trained dental professionals who support the dentists by specialising in oral hygiene and gum health. You will receive a thorough assessment of the health of your gums, followed by a dental clean and fluoride treatment.
Finally, we will provide you with some guidelines on how to best look after your teeth, as we always believe prevention is better than cure.
How long will my first visit take?
To allow us to conduct a comprehensive initial check-up and clean, please allow 1.5 hours for this first appointment. Should you have any time commitments, please advise us prior to starting the appointment so that we can accommodate you.
We understand that this may be longer than other check-ups and cleans you may have had in the past; however, our NPE allows for enough time for you to have a truly comfortable, yet thorough experience. Your six-monthly check-up and cleans will be less time.
To maximise your time with the dentist, we ask all our new patients to arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment time to allow for medical history forms to be filled.
What should I bring to this appointment?
We always encourage our patients to bring any dental devices you may have for assessment, such as night guards, mouth guards and anti-snoring devices made by a dentist. If you have any questions regarding a recently purchased dental product such as an electric toothbrush or water flosser, feel free to bring it too. If you have private health insurance, make sure you bring your private health fund card as we will be unable to claim any available benefits for this appointment without it.
If I have recently had x-rays done, do I still need to have x-rays taken?
If you have had dental x-rays taken within the last two years, please advise us. We may be able to request a transfer of dental x-rays from your previous dental practice, which may take up to two weeks. Once received, we will advise you on whether you require any updates of dental x-rays for a comprehensive assessment of your health.
We look forward to meeting you and providing you with the highest levels of health care.
