Having several missing teeth can be an unfortunate experience. It’s difficult to enjoy the foods you love. You might be reluctant to smile or talk. Plus, dental health could have an impact on your overall well-being. The good news is that dealing with missing teeth is much easier today than it was just 10 years ago, thanks to more treatment options like all-on-4 technology.

Similar to dental implants, all-on-4 technology uses dental implants as anchors. The difference is that instead of replacing individual teeth, four anchors are used to secure an entire bridge of teeth.

Here’s why this can be advantageous over traditional dental implants.

All-on-4 vs. Dental Implants

The beginning procedure of both all-on-4 and regular dental implants is similar: metal anchor posts are surgically placed directly into the patient’s jawbone, allowing the gum to heal around the post. Once the healing process is complete, the permanent “teeth” can be affixed to the posts.

If you only have one or two missing teeth, then a regular dental implant could be the best path forward. However, if you have multiple missing teeth to the point where you might need a full set replacement, then all-on-4 provides a huge advantage over individual implants.

The main benefit is that fewer implants are needed to restore your smile. Rather than going through multiple implant procedures, all four posts can be inserted in the same procedure. You can restore your entire smile with fewer treatments and enjoy more permanent results compared to dentures.

Patients can also enjoy a faster “fix” with all-on-4 implants compared to traditional dental implants. A provisional bridge can be placed as soon as the implant posts are placed. This isn’t the case with traditional implants, as patients usually have to wait six months to heal before the final crown can be affixed.

In some cases, patients that may not qualify for dental implants due to bone loss may still qualify for all-on-4 implants. For example, if a patient requires implants at the rear of the jaw but have lost too much bone material, there’s a higher risk of implant failure. All-on-4 technology helps to overcome this obstacle because implants can be placed closer to the front of the jaw, where bone tends to be more stable over time.

Other Benefits of All-on-4 Treatments

Other options aside, all-on-4 treatments provide a number of attractive benefits to the patient:

Improved Appearance

All-on-4 implants immediately improve your appearance by restoring structure to your face and giving you a fuller, even smile. They decrease wrinkles on the face associated with missing teeth and bone. What’s more, they can also prevent your bone structure from deteriorating further due to missing teeth.

Immediate Comfort

When patients first receive their provisional bridge, they feel a difference instantly. It becomes easier to eat, speak, and smile. Overall stability improves, and you can start to enjoy your favourite foods again.

Long-Lasting Results

All-on-4 implants are a permanent alternative to dentures. Once they’re affixed, you don’t have to remove them for cleaning or care. Your bone and gums heal around the posts so that your implants become a permanent part of your mouth.

Ease of Care

Caring for your all-on-4 implants is very similar to the way you’d care for your natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and visits to your dentist can help you keep your new teeth in good condition.
