A brighter, whiter smile is within your reach! Professional teeth whitening services are among the most common requests we receive here at Sydney Road Dental Care. Just one session can remove years of discolouration and give you every reason to smile.

If this is your first time, you may be wondering: What happens during the teeth whitening process?

Rest assured it’s a pretty straightforward treatment. Here’s what you can expect when you visit our office for teeth whitening.

Consult with a Professional

We begin every teeth whitening journey with a professional consultation. This is your opportunity to meet our team, ask your questions, and learn more about our process.

During this consultation, we’ll evaluate your overall dental health to ensure you’re a good candidate for teeth whitening. We also want to hear about your goals so we can help you set the right expectations.

While you should see results after just one treatment, it may take multiple sessions to achieve the level of whiteness you desire. We can provide an estimate for the number of treatments you may need during the consultation so you can make an informed decision.

Select In-Chair or At-Home Whitening

At Sydney Road Dental Care, we offer two options for teeth whitening: in our office or at your home.

In-Chair Teeth Whitening

In-chair whitening offers immediate results and is performed by a professional using one of our two state-of-the-art whitening machines: the Philips Zoom! or the Smartbleach 3LT. Your dentist will recommend which machine to use based on your teeth sensitivity, staining, and other factors.

Prior to the procedure, we take steps to protect your gums from the whitening agent by padding the mouth with a rubber dental dam. This also increases your comfort during the procedure, as you can relax your jaw while we perform the treatment.

We’ll also line your mouth with gauze to keep your mouth dry. This allows the whitening agent to do its best work.

From there, we apply the whitening gel to your teeth. The whitening agent is activated by a light to speed up the process.

There are several advantages to in-chair whitening compared to at-home treatments. For starters, the entire procedure is performed by a professional, giving you the best possible results. Also, teeth whitening regulations in Australia allow in-chair procedures to use a higher grade whitening agent for faster results.

The total visit should take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.

At-Home Teeth Whitening

If you have particularly sensitive teeth, an at-home teeth whitening option might be a better for you. We provide take-home kits you can use in the comfort of your own home. These are professional-grade kits, unlike the ones you can purchase over-the-counter in stores. We custom-make each tray for you to use so that the whitening solution is applied evenly on your teeth.

This option does come with a greater time commitment. Each treatment should be performed twice a day for 30 minutes over the course of two weeks. The results are comparable to what you’d get from an office visit.

Touch Up Your Teeth at Home

In some cases, we may send you home with a whitening kit for touch-ups after your in-office procedure. These are complimentary whitening trays that you can use at your convenience to maintain your whiter teeth. This is an especially big benefit to patients who are using professional whitening to prepare for veneers.

Regardless of your approach, teeth whitening is a highly effective, non-invasive procedure that offers great results. Contact our team to schedule your no-obligation consultation!
